Moving is probably on my least favorite things to do list (cause we all have one of those, right?)
About a month ago, my husband and I moved into a brand new apartment.
Our lease at our old apartment was coming up and we wanted to move into a place a bit more updated.
After all, if we were going to be living the apartment life for at least one more year (fingers crossed!), we wanted some extra luxury’s.
Like a fireplace, vinyl wood floors and all updated appliances!
So we moved February 25-26 and it was the coldest, snowiest day/weekend ever!
Yes, it was perfect timing.
But when you live in Nebraska, the weather is not on your side.
We made it through, and it really is a fun memory to look back on!
When moving, it’s always a good idea to get organized and have a plan of attack.
I wanted to share four tips that made our moving day an absolute breeze and surprisingly, really fun!
Enlist the help of your family and friends!
We have an amazing family and group of friends so we had plenty of people step up to help us.
My dad, our in-laws and some of our guy friends lent their help that day, and it was so much fun!
My dad is always entertaining and the guys all together are just hilarious.
It made the move so much more bearable and memorable at the same time.
The key is to bribe them, especially the guys, with pizza!
Yep, works every time.
My Dad, Papa Smurf 🙂
Sticky notes! Yes, I definitely am that girl who marks every single box with a sharpie.
Exactly what’s inside the box and where its going to go, but my husband, who is a genius, came up with the sticky note method for furniture placement in a moving van.
If you have lots of hands helping, it’s nice to mark every single item so they don’t have to ask you every time they grab something, “Where does this go?”.
But when you’re loading up a moving van and want to keep it organized, mark your furniture items with numbers.
Starting at number 1 for your first item in the van and so on!
It really helped the flow of moving heavy furniture down three, yes, THREE flights of stairs.
Plus honestly, who doesn’t love buying a pack of new sticky notes!
Clothes in trash bags.
It sounds strange I know.
But seriously, this is probably my favorite tip of them all!
Moving your clothes is the absolute worst.
Falling hangers and carrying load after load out to the car… not to mention, the amount of space they take up!
I found the perfect solution: putting your clothes in trash bags.
You keep them on the hangers and pull a bag over a stack from the bottom up.
It keeps the clothes close and organized, and best part, it definitely will lessen the amount of loads you have to carry!
Address change list.
Besides the packing everything up in boxes and so on, there’s also that one tedious task of changing your address.
Honestly, who can remember every single thing and place they have to change their address too?!
Having a list was an absolute life saver.
It helped me to make sure I didn’t forget all the ones I normally wouldn’t think about.
We will send you a free printable checklist – click HERE!
I even left some extra lines for those changes you need to add to your own personal list!
