My goal is not to overwhelm you with 9,430,583 different ways to coupon or save money.
I’m just going to share with you what I do: print coupons, scan receipts, buy discounted gift cards & use Ebates!
I’ve had a lot of people ask me how I save so much on everyday purchases.
It doesn’t take forever- it just takes a little patience every now & then.
Here’s my “secrets” so you can benefit too!
Before you get going, create an email address specifically for your apps to send you deals/coupons to.
This will make sure you don’t blow up your regular email with your savings emails.
IMPORTANT: Only buy things you NEED- don’t buy items you have no use for just because you have a coupon.
Make your shopping list FIRST and print/find coupons that go along with what you need.
Step 1. Go to coupons.com to print coupons for free.
(You can also print from Savings Star, Red Plum & Smart Source if you have time.)
Step 2. Download the FREE apps below on your phone & simply scan grocery receipts for CASH BACK or gift cards
(And no, there’s not a catch, or else I wouldn’t be sharing these with you):
#1: MY TOP PICK: ibotta: Select the coupons you want and it will create a shopping list for you.
Scan your receipt in & scan barcodes on your groceries, then you accumulate $ and can cash out via check or paypal.
#3: Checkout51: This is like the two above – you can select coupons from a list of current offers, then scan your receipt after your trip for cash back.
#4: Cartwheel: This is exclusive to Target so be sure to download it only if you’re a Target shopper. You need to look at all of the coupons prior to checkout to put them on your ‘card’ so the savings impact at the end of your checkout.

Step 3: Ebates: I’m sure you’ve heard of this – I always thought it sounded too good to be true, but nope, it’s AMAZING!!!
I use Ebates for my online shopping to Kohls, Expedia, Groupon, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond, Express, and lots more.
Basically, you just login to the app, look at the cash back percentages they are currently offering at each place you’re wanting to shop, then you go to those stores online, (you can even login to your store acct to use extra coupons you have), and you’ll get 3-15% cash back at checkout!
The cash back will accumulate and they’ll mail you a check 2-3 times each year or you can cash out with PayPal!
I did my Christmas shopping online and earned more than $100 in cash back from Ebates!

Step 4: Discounted Gift Cards from Raise: I love this app!
People will list their gift cards for sale at discounted percentages of 2-15% off.
We are talking stores you shop in all the time, so you might as well just get the gift card at a better rate anyway!
Target, Applebees, Marshalls, Best Buy, Petco, Starbucks, etc. 🙂

Step 5: Request coupons directly from the companies you use most.
Example: If your kids love Cheez-its, write them an email saying that you love their product and would be grateful for a coupon- if they have any.
Sometimes these companies will gift you with free product vouchers as a thank you for being a loyal customer.
This can go for any type of purchase!
Step 6: Price match items with Amazon.
We went to buy some photo printing paper at Office Depot, then realized it was $20 less on Amazon.
We asked if they would price match.
They agreed, and they even gave us their buy 1, get 1 free deal too.
It never hurts to ask, price check here.
These are well-known tools, but I like to use them only when there’s a promo code available where you get an extra 20-30% off.
I typically grab some deals on different restaurants or silly activities that would make for fun outings or date nights.
Groupon is probably my favorite of the two options.
You can sign up here.
Step 8: Get a jar to keep the $ you save in so you can see the impact it’s having! Stick to it.
This is truly as simple as I can make it – and it’s WORTH IT to take the time to add these apps to your phone.
Here’s a quick breakdown…
Buy a $100 gift card on Raise to Target for 5% off, you’ve already saved $5.
Print 5-10 coupons or cut them from RedPlum or Smartsource, save another $10-15.
Upload your receipts to ibotta, MobiSave & Checkout51 – get cash back, let’s say $5-8 based on a $100 grocery trip.
(Sometimes the apps have special bonuses where you’ll accumulate an extra $5-20 off!)
Your grocery trip is only $72 instead of $100.
Saved $28 … then you do it again on your next few trips, you save $140 in 5 trips!
You can have FUN with that $140 instead of spending it on stuff that’s necessity. 🙂
That’s on the light side of estimation – it doesn’t take into consideration the store sales or price matching you might do.
I hope these tidbits help you!
Little changes can snowball, so keep going & you might be able to fund a trip with what you save!
